7-Day Lemosho Route Itinerary

The Lemosho Route offers stunning scenery, excellent acclimatization, and a higher chance of summit success. This 7-day itinerary follows a gradual ascent through diverse habitats, from rainforest to alpine desert.

Day 1: Lemosho Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

• Elevation: 2,100m to 2,650m
• Distance: 6 km
• Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
• Habitat: Rainforest

Begin trekking through dense rainforest. Reach Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp and enjoy the natural surroundings.

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 2 Camp

• Elevation: 2,650m to 3,850m
• Distance: 10 km
• Hiking Time: 6–7 hours
• Habitat: Moorland

Ascend from the forest to the open moorland zone, crossing to the Shira Plateau and camping at Shira 2 Camp.

Day 3: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp

• Elevation: 3,850m to 3,976m
• Distance: 12 km
• Hiking Time: 6–8 hours
• Habitat: Semi-desert

Cross rugged terrain towards Barranco Camp, preparing for the challenging Barranco Wall climb tomorrow.

Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

• Elevation: 3,976m to 3,995m
• Distance: 5 km
• Hiking Time: 4–5 hours
• Habitat: Alpine desert

Climb the iconic Barranco Wall, then trek through valleys and ridges to Karanga Camp. A shorter day to help your body acclimatize.

Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

• Elevation: 3,995m to 4,673m
• Distance: 4 km
• Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
• Habitat: Alpine desert

Continue to Barafu Camp, where you'll rest and prepare for the summit push that begins after midnight.

Day 6: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak, then down to Mweka Camp

• Elevation: 4,673m to 5,895m (Uhuru Peak), then down to 3,100m
• Distance: 17 km
• Hiking Time: 12–16 hours
• Habitat: Arctic to rainforest

Summit attempt begins around midnight. Reach Uhuru Peak for sunrise, then descend back to Mweka Camp for rest.

Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

• Elevation: 3,100m to 1,640m
• Distance: 10 km
• Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
• Habitat: Rainforest

Descend through rainforest to the Mweka Gate. Celebrate your success and receive your summit certificate.
