4-Day Mount Meru Itinerary

The 4-day Mount Meru trek offers a more relaxed pace and better acclimatization, making it ideal for those looking to fully enjoy the natural beauty and wildlife of Arusha National Park while preparing for higher-altitude adventures like Kilimanjaro. Experience diverse landscapes, including rainforest, moorland, and alpine zones, all with panoramic views.

Day 1: Momella Gate to Miriakamba Hut

• Elevation: 1,500m to 2,514m
• Distance: 10 km
• Hiking Time: 4–6 hours
• Habitat: Montane Forest

Begin your trek with an armed ranger escort through Arusha National Park. Spot giraffes, buffalos, monkeys, and various bird species. Enjoy a relaxed hike to Miriakamba Hut for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut

• Elevation: 2,514m to 3,570m
• Distance: 8 km
• Hiking Time: 3–5 hours
• Habitat: Heath and Moorland

Climb steadily through lush forest and open moorland. Reach Saddle Hut in time for a hot lunch. In the afternoon, take an optional acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3,820m) for amazing views of the summit and Kilimanjaro in the distance.

Day 3: Summit Attempt (Socialist Peak) and Return to Miriakamba Hut

• Elevation: 3,570m to 4,566m (Summit), then back to 2,514m
• Distance: 14 km
• Hiking Time: 10–12 hours
• Habitat: Alpine Desert to Montane Forest

Start early around 2:00 AM for a challenging climb to Socialist Peak (4,566m) for sunrise. Enjoy dramatic views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Ash Cone, and the Great Rift Valley. After summiting, descend to Saddle Hut for a short rest, then continue to Miriakamba Hut for your final overnight stay.

Day 4: Miriakamba Hut to Momella Gate

• Elevation: 2,514m to 1,500m
• Distance: 10 km
• Hiking Time: 2–4 hours
• Habitat: Montane Forest

Enjoy a leisurely descent through forest trails. Your vehicle will meet you at Momella Gate to transfer you back to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi. A certificate of achievement will be presented for your successful climb.
