5-Day Marangu Route Itinerary

The Marangu Route is one of the most popular and comfortable ways to reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Known as the "Coca-Cola" route, it offers hut accommodations instead of tents and a gentle ascent profile.

Day 1: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

• Elevation: 1,860m to 2,700m
• Distance: 8 km
• Hiking Time: 4–5 hours
• Habitat: Rainforest

Begin your trek through lush rainforest. Expect to see monkeys, birds, and exotic plants. Overnight at Mandara Hut.

Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

• Elevation: 2,700m to 3,720m
• Distance: 12 km
• Hiking Time: 6–8 hours
• Habitat: Moorland

Hike through moorland with views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Acclimatize and rest at Horombo Hut.

Day 3: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

• Elevation: 3,720m to 4,703m
• Distance: 10 km
• Hiking Time: 6–8 hours
• Habitat: Alpine desert

A challenging day with stunning views as you cross the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. Overnight at Kibo Hut in preparation for your summit attempt.

Day 4: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak & down to Horombo Hut

• Elevation: 4,703m to 5,895m (Uhuru) then down to 3,720m
• Distance: 22 km total
• Hiking Time: 10–14 hours
• Habitat: Arctic to Moorland

Start your summit attempt around midnight. Reach Uhuru Peak at sunrise, then descend to Horombo Hut for a well-deserved rest.

Day 5: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate

• Elevation: 3,720m to 1,860m
• Distance: 20 km
• Hiking Time: 6–8 hours
• Habitat: Moorland to Rainforest

Descend through the rainforest to the gate where you’ll receive your summit certificates. Transfer back to your hotel.
